CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
3/15/2006

Taking the place of faith sharing, the meeting opened by attending the Taize prayer service. It was a wonderfully spiritual way to start the meeting.

Roll Call: Bob Schultek, Louise Cox, Judie Melillo, Tony Kuhel, Dave Pastor, Janet Payton, Katie Burke, Sandy Patrick, Jacki Calavitta, Fr. Mark Hobson, Lisa Frey, Terry Battaglia, Meg Matuska. Absent: Mike Peterson, Joe Schlanser

Minutes Approved: and were seconded from the meeting held February 15, 2006, as issued on 2/27/2006.

Bob then reviewed agenda items.

Discussion Items:

Parish Council Discernment – There will be bulletin announcements on March 26 and April 7, with an announcement at all masses the weekend of April 23. The scheduled dates for this process are as follows: Discernment introduction on April 26. Initial discernment meeting to be mid-May. Final discernment meeting is TBD. We need to develop a list of potential PC members; names should be forwarded to Judie or Sandy.

We reviewed “Roles of Parish Council Members” and agreed that it accurately stated the parameters. Fr. Mark stated that PC is to work through major issues and directives from the Diocese (examples: Generations of Faith, Vibrant Parish Life 2, etc.). There was also much discussion regarding connecting Parish Council with the various commissions and committees.

VPL2 – Katie gave an update on the progress. About 12 members attended the March 6 meeting, with 3 more anticipated to join for the discernment meeting on March 20. An understanding of the group’s mission was presented; we are now awaiting the final diocesan proposal to be presented at the April 5 meeting held at St. Noel parish.

Tony invited everyone to join a discussion group for the Collaboration book which meets Wednesdays at Panera in Solon at 6:30 a.m.

Reporting Items:

Big Picture – At this point, there were 100 members signed up for the March 29 event. More signups will be urged at upcoming weekend Mass announcements.

Youth Group – Terry stated that Bible school has been scheduled for June; currently developing summer schedule and a fall retreat.

Hospitality Committee – The Mardi Gras event on 2/28 was a huge success, with 227 adults (not counting volunteer help) and 87 children in attendance. The many pictures on our bulletin board attest to the good time had by all.

The floating greeter program continues to expand at all masses. Schedules will be issued for the next several months and will be posted on the website.

Pictures of new members are displayed in wooden frames in the gathering area. A great way to identify and welcome new families to our parish community.

Follow up items for April meeting:

• VPL2 Committee – Final Diocesan Guidelines

• Discernment for Parish Council – finalize meeting dates

Respectfully submitted,
