PARISH COUNCIL MINUTES
MEETING OF 3/22/07
Roll call: Katie Burke, Mike Behnke, Kathy Rinehart, Father Mark Hobson, Lisa Frey, Bob Schultek, Louise Cox, Murray Mayo, Mary Anne Theby, and Dave Pastor
Excused: Sandy Patrick, Terry Battaglia, Dave Mazanec, Jacki Calavitta,
Opening Prayer: Murrray Mayo
Approval of Minutes: Motion was made by Bob Schultek and seconded by Murray Mayo to approve the minutes for the February 2007 Parish Council meeting. Father Mark will follow up to ensure the minutes are posted to the parish website.
Business:
1. Clustering
Mike Behnke and Murray Mayo presented the introductory letter and interview questions which will be used for contacting facilities and establishments whose spiritual needs were previously supported by Saint Jude.
Father Mark will advise Suzanne Horvath to contact each of the establishments to determine a contact name. Once name is identified, introductory letter will be sent and an interview appointment will be scheduled. Parish Council will work with the Hospitality and/or Wellness Committees to obtain two volunteers to go out and facilitate each of the interviews.
The purpose of the interview will be to get information and assess needs. Father Mark to draft article outlining this for the interviewers. After the interview, a thank you letter will be sent to the establishment outlining the key points of the interview and next steps.
Interviewers will leave one of our brochures with each establishment.
2. Discernment for New Members of Parish Council.
Announcement regarding new council members and upcoming discernment will be placed in the bulletin the weekend of March 24-25 and March 31 – April 1.
New people interested in serving on the new council will be invited to attend the April 18th Council meeting. They will be asked to come at 6:15 for an overview prior to the meeting.
Discernment meeting will take place at 7:00p.m. on Monday, May 7th.
All new members will be welcomed at the June Parish council meeting.
Discussion:
1. We relooked at the action steps/proposals that were generated as a result of previous discussions on Hospitality, Role of the Laity, and the Marginalized. We decided to focus on one item for each of these areas.
Hospitality:
Welcome brunch for former parishioners of Saint Jude was a large success.
The Worship Commission is developing weekly education topics regarding why we do things the way we do.
Role of the Laity in the Church:
Sister Kate Kuenstler PHJC, JCD is scheduled to speak on this topic on May 16th.
Marginalized:
Murray Mayo will contact Sister Margaret Mock regarding Home for the Holidays, a program geared toward welcoming the marginalized or alienated Catholics.
We will look at drafting a purpose statement which is displayed in our gathering area that stresses our commitment, as a parish, to inclusion.
Father Mark will look into better signage for the front of the church.
Announcements:
1. The Social Justice Commission’s name appeared in the National Catholic Register within Pax Christe article urging an end to the war.
2. Lisa Frey reminded council about the March 30th Soup and Bread supper followed by Stations of the Cross performed by the youth.
