Bob then reviewed the agenda for this meeting.

Discussion Items:

VPL2 – Katie Burke, chairperson, explained that two separate subcommittees were formed to handle the Education and Clustering components. Several working meetings have been held; the most recent Clustering meeting held May 16 included an update from the Education group on their activities. Many ideas were discussed in regard to potential clustering partners, starting with a listing of parishes where we have collaborative activities. Other criteria covered is parish schools (relating to finance implications), and a request to temporarily assist at St. Jude’s parish. It was also discussed about dialoging with cluster partners and the greater parish community; although encouraged but not required by the Diocese, it was agreed that these steps are vitally important. The Education group has identified a list of critical communications to parishioners, with an initial mailing and letter from Fr. Mark to co-incide with the kickoff around Pentecost Sunday.

Parish Council Goals – Bob reviewed our goals and progress for the past year, noting that our planning efforts were superseded by the VPL2 initiative. He asked for input on goals for the coming year, with the following suggestions offered:

Encouraging greater Parish Council support and attendance at church sponsored events
Outreach efforts for inactive or alienated members
Interfaith value sharing

Committee Reports:

Hospitality Committee update – Jacki gave highlights from most recent meeting on May 8. Revised draft of parish brochure is being reviewed. Updated parish directory (without pictures) is encountering software difficulties and will require merging programs, therefore extending the timeframe for completion. Next new member orientation scheduled for May 21. The second Volunteer Fair is planned for the weekend of September 30 – October 1. We are investigating the possibility of holding a parish picnic, possibly the weekend before Labor Day, or possible outside Mass on Saturday August 26, with a picnic to follow and dancing under the stars.

Youth Ministry – Terry announced that Vacation Bible School in June to have a “Fiesta” theme. There will also be a Junior High Summer Camp.

Social Justice – Lisa announced that the Thea Bowman Center on the Epiphany grounds, is sponsoring a Children’s Health 20/20 – on June 18, there will be a ground blessing.

She also noted that the Parish Library (located in the old chapel) has been organized by topic, to support the parish mission.

The window memorials are due to install on June 20.

The meeting concluded with a closing prayer offered by Bob Schultek.

Respectfully submitted,

Jacki Calavitta
