CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION PARISH
COUNCIL MEETING SUMMARY NOTES
Roll call: Bob Schultek, Louise Cox, Tony Kuhel, Mike Peterson, Joe Schlanser, Jacki Calavitta, Sandy Patrick, Katie Burke, Fr. Mark, Lisa Frey, Terry Battaglia Absent: Judie Melillo, Janet Payton, David Pastor, Meg Matuska No minutes from the previous meeting were distributed, so they could not be approved. Tony led the prayer and faith sharing. He asked that we relate our recent experiences with “Fear”. Plenty to go around here. Tony then gave a Strengths Finder update with an “action cycle” that showed how our group strengths are clustered and where gaps exist. As to discernment of gifts, it was suggested that we call in some parish expertise in this area. Tony Kuhel will take the lead on this continuing project. Jacki presented a summary of the Vibrant Parish Life 2 initiative from the Diocesan Parish Council meeting in October. The focus of the presentation is the concept of parish clustering, with parishes invited to present their suggestions to the Diocese for consideration by April, 2006. Father Mark stated that this is the most important undertaking since the completion of our new worship space; one that has even greater impact on our parish and its future. Since the timeline is extremely short and the importance is very great, we need to form a subcommittee ASAP. Father Mark explained the process he used for the Building Committee, a combination of discernment and “strategically recruited volunteers” might be a good approach. Parish Council’s role in this needs to be determined, as well as the formation of its members. It was suggested that this will be the primary focus of the unscheduled December Parish Council meeting (planned for Monday, December 5, 2005). It was decided to take no further action on the Vocations project at this time, in favor of other priorities such as VPL2. Terry gave an update on the Bearss family and what we as Parish Council could do for them for the holidays. It was suggested that Parish Council members could contribute gift certificates for restaurants, groceries, and stores such as WalMart and Kohls. Joe Schlanser offered to co-ordinate. Gift cards can be dropped off to Diane in the parish office. So far, there were a total of 150 signups for the 3 sessions of the Advent Big Picture event. There will be another push for attendees at the weekend Masses; parish council to help. Fr. Mark stated that the part-time Business Manager position will be phased out. Starting 1/03/06, we will add a part-time secretary and Diane will become the “plant manager”. We are currently soliciting proposals for cleaning service. In regard to facility utilization, Cathi Peterson is drafting a policy. Upcoming events: Lisa mentioned that there will be a training program starting Monday nights in January for providing Communion to the sick and shut-in, for anyone interested in participating in this ministry. Also, there will be a March Lenten renewal day for the Youth Ministry. A live nativity scene will be featured on Saturday, December 17, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
