Discussion Items:

St. Jude Update - Father Mark gave an update on St. Jude Parish. He informed council members that is was official/unofficial that Resurrection would be taking over the records of this parish. As of now, the last mass will be on November 12th at 11:00am with refreshments to be held in our parish hall afterwards. Resurrection would do a welcoming reception possibly the following Sunday, November 19th. As part of the closing, the St. Jude statue will be placed on the Resurrection grounds and a sculpture of St. Francis will be placed in our parish hall. Suzanne Horvath has already begun working the Resurrection office and will help all of us with this transition.

Hospitality – Mary Ann began this is discussion by stating that it is important to understand who and what we are. She explained that we would discuss what type of community we are, and who are the Parish Council members and what do we represent. Overall discussion we at Resurrection are good at what we do in terms of being a welcoming community. Parish Council as a whole does a very good job of relaying the message overall. A discussion was had on whether or not the Council members could actually represent a Q&A session well. Can we actually field questions like, why don’t we have kneelers; why is the tabernacle not in view of the congregation; etc. We posed the question about putting together a small Q&A sheet to answer some of these questions, especially in light of the new changes with St. Jude. Mary Ann also suggested that we communicate by the use of pictures and that we should consider a collage of past events. Fr. Mark indicated that we needed an archivist and asked if we knew of anyone.

The actions that resulted from our discussion were as follows:

1. How do we reach out to 1st St. Jude’s since it’s our immediate need?
2. How do we educate them about our parish?
a. Fr. Mark suggested a subcommittee
i. Mary Ann suggested that Hospitality should spear head this
ii. Katie suggested a subcommittee from VPL with our folks and theirs.
iii. Suggestion was made to invite Suzanne to the next Hospitality meeting to gain her feedback.
3. Fr. Mark will research when the St. Jude community was informed that they would be coming to Resurrection. He will inform the council before an announcement is made at mass.

Bylaws discussion – Dave passed out a new draft and asked for comments back.

VPL II – October 25th meeting will be announced from the pulpit the weekend of October 22nd. A VPL meeting is being scheduled with the Chagrin Valley group.
