CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
9/22/2005

IN ATTENDANCE:

Sandy Patrick, Tony Kuhel, Katie Burke, Judie Melillo, Joe Schlanser, Jacki Calavitta, Louise Cox, Janet Payton, David Pastor Pastoral Team: Fr. Mark, Lisa Frey, Meg Matuska, Terry Battaglia

Excused: Bob Schultek, Mike Peterson

Minutes from the August retreat meeting were reviewed and approved by unanimous vote.

Faith Sharing: Fr. Mark invited all participants to share their thoughts on how Hurricane Katrina impacted their faith.

Next we reviewed the group results of the StrengthsFinder. There were some areas of common strengths (Arranger, Connectedness, Developer, Learner, Strategic), as well as gaps (Communication, Focus, Harmony, Restorative). We will discuss further at the next meeting when all results are in (this will be an agenda item for 10/19 meeting), to determine how we can effectively use this information.

We discussed as a group the revised council meeting agenda; there were mixed reactions. It was decided to add formal roll call to the start of the agenda. Also assign the opening and closing prayer for each meeting. (Those willing to participate are: Joe Schlanser, Jacki Calavitta, Louise Cox, Janet Payton, Tony Kuhel, and Katie Burke). Fr. Mark stated that the faith sharing portion is intended as a reflection for the response of group members.

Janet reviewed our parish Core Values, and that these should be used in our discussions re vision, strategies and assessments of how we are doing as a parish.

Tony led the discussion of the strategic plan schedule developed by the Planning Team. Fr. Mark questioned our 3 year goals – would it require continuity of parish council members for the entire team to implement properly? It was agreed that the timeline was very ambitious; while it is important to have an sense of urgency, we need enough flexibility to make sure it is right. Tony asked members to share their thoughts on SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) in our parish. This will be a separate attachment to these notes.

Judie Melillo to investigate “adopt a parish” for the Katrina relief effort.

Father Mark to announce at the weekend masses the current financial report, and our stable condition with the new building and permanent financing structure. He pointed out, however, that support for our commitment to the poor has dropped as a result of the additional fundraising activities.

As Fr. Mark will be on vacation for the October parish council meeting, we plan on having an executive committee meeting in the interim to discuss and prepare the agenda. Tony and Bob will spearhead this effort.

Respectfully submitted,

Jacki Calavitta
