PARISH COUNCIL MINUTES

MEETING OF 4/18/07

Roll call: Katie Burke, Mike Behnke, Kathy Rinehart, Murray Mayo, Fr. Mark, Lisa Frey, Sandy Patrick, Terry Battaglia, Dave Mazanec, Jane Hogan, Louise Cox, and David Pastor

Opening Prayer: Fr. Mark

Minutes Approved: Minutes of the last meeting were approved and seconded.

Business Items:

Clustering:

Letter has been written but has not been sent to the new establishments within our boundaries. Suzanne Horvath to give us more insight on what their needs might be. Parish Council members will go in pairs of 2 to do these interviews. Several other groups within the parish are also aware of the interviews and are willing to help.

ACTION: will add the new places to our Volunteer Fair.

Discussion on joint parish council meeting with St. Rita and Ss. Cosmas and Damian: Terry gave a briefing of a recent meeting between all the parishes of which Resurrection and St. Rita only attended. The mood was that of no expectations of any type for this meeting. Both parishes recognized that we already do some type of clustering already. St. Rita’s was apprised of our much larger boundaries now and the thought of them helping out. A possible new ministry being “born” is something that we can all collaborate on together. Father indicated that a Cluster Planning Committee will need to be formed from each parish. The committee will include: the Pastor, someone from Finance Council, someone from Parish Council and a staff member or another Parish Council member.

ACTION: contact Fr. Mark if you are interested in participating. Talk of the meetings being held late in the day rather than the evening is the goal.

Discernment:

We had 2 people join us for our council meeting: Mark Alstadt and John Shovary.

Reaction to Holy Week:

The overall consensus was that it was very nice. Several comments and suggestions were made for future reference.

June Meeting:

Council unanimously decided that our June meeting will be held on the 13th. This change is due to conflicting schedules for several members.

Education:

Father Mark gave a brief overview of a future discussion on Education in our Parish. This topic stems from the Christian Formation Commission that Sr. Jeanette used to spearhead. Looking to whether we need to do more hands-on type stuff; and how do we restore the concept on what education needs are for adults. What types of topics can be generated and then an invitation sent to the parish. The bigger question is who determines what the agenda is for the parish? We should look at what methods are currently working. Thought was posed that we should revisit a year’s worth of parish calendars to see what has already been offered in the past and whether we think we are fulfilling the needs of the adults in our parish.

ACTION: reflect on the overall topic. Ask questions from some of the Parishioners on what they think works versus doesn’t. Come prepared for discussion at the June meeting.

Announcements:

- Volunteer fair is at the end of September
- Summer picnic is August 25th

Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Patrick
