Sacraments:

Sacramental Preparation

First Eucharist

At Church of the Resurrection, preparation for First Eucharist traditionally takes place in grade two. Preparation for this sacrament begins with the child's baptism and continues as the child experiences faith as it is expressed and practiced in the family and home environment.

The process of immediate preparation for First Eucharist includes:

  • Catechesis for the child in Church of the Resurrection Parish School of Religion or attendance at a Catholic school.
  • Participation in the Holy Family Program sessions for parents and children. This includes three small-group parent sessions for those participating in Holy Family Program for the first time and two large-group sessions for all children preparing for First Eucharist and their parents.

Celebration of First Eucharist at a parish weekend liturgy preferably during the Easter season

Infant Baptism

Parents wishing to present their infant children for baptism are expected to participate in a pre-baptism session at Church of the Resurrection. The goal of the session is to reinforce the parents' understanding of the meaning of baptism and the responsibilities that flow from it. The role of sponsors, the baptism symbols and ritual and Christian parenting are also discussed.

Pre-baptism sessions are scheduled on an individual basis. For more information or to schedule a pre-baptism session, contact Theresa Battaglia at 440-248-0980 or TBattaglia@churchofresurrection.org.

Infant baptism is usually celebrated on the second or fourth Sunday of the month after the 11:00 AM Mass or during a weekend liturgy. To schedule a baptism, contact the parish office at 440-248-0980.

Older children of catechetical age who have not been baptized or celebrated their First Communion are invited to participate in a special process of preparation. For more information, contact Father Mark Hobson at 440-248-0980 or JMhobson@churchofresurrection.org

Confirmation and Reconciliation

Confirmation is usually celebrated in the junior year of high school. The Confirmation program consists of classroom instruction, a weekend retreat, and service projects.

Before formal classes begin, a special meeting is held for candidates and their parents to explain the program. In addition, there are two evenings of recollection for candidates and sponsors.

Reconciliation is usually celebrated in the sixth grade at a parish communal reconciliation service.
